The project

Highway construction left this Kansas City, Kansas neighborhood with empty lots. Our team of twelve set out to rebuild it from the ground up.

01 Community

A housing cooperative

02 Education

Filling the gaps in school

03 Culture

A center for every background

Turning empty lots into the neighborhood’s living room

01 — Outdoor planning · My role

Kansas City, Kansas has many empty lots. I designed the outdoor public spaces that turn this one into shared ground: places to play, gather and slow down, open to every generation.

Axonometric drawings of the basketball court ringed with stepped seating, two community-designed parks, and the fountain garden with planting and trees

Showing how the rooms would feel

02 — Interior renders · My role

I rendered the arts and heritage gallery to show how the education and culture center would feel: warm light, natural materials, and rooms full of the people they were designed for.

Render of the gallery entrance: a school group and visitors looking at paintings and sculpture along a long, glazed wall
Gallery entranceCelebrating the neighborhood’s cultural identity, and its history.
Render of the gallery interior: people walking past a wide stair, a mural and a sculpture in a warm, daylit room
Gallery interiorA wide stair, a mural and daylight draw visitors through.
